1.  Description

The American Geophysical Union provides guidelines and LaTeX-package for articles submitted to its journals (the old class AGUtex.cls is no longer supported and the transitory release is buggy).

2.  Installation for Windows

  1. Assuming that you are using MiKTeX, create a subfolder named agutex in MiKTeX's latex package folder, e.g.
    C:\Program Files\MiKTeX\tex\latex\agutex
and copy there all files from this zip file.
  2. To make the new files visible for MiKTeX, use the Start menu Programs->MiKTeX->Settings and press there "Refresh FNDB".
  3. In LyX use the menu Tools->Reconfigure, and then restart LyX.

3.  Installation for Linux

You must be root or sudo user. More information can be found in CreatingLayouts

  1. You need files from this location: https://www.agu.org/-/media/Files/Publications/Feb-3-22-latex-templates.zip
  2. Create a folder named agutex in /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/ and copy the class file agutex.cls there.
  3. Create a folder named agutex in /usr/share/texmf/bibtex/bst/ and copy the .bst file there.
  4. Now run "texhash" (ie type texhash in a terminal). This will reconfigure latex and make it available for lyx.
  5. In LyX use the menu Tools->Reconfigure, and then restart LyX.

4.  Template

LyX includes the template file agujournal.lyx (AGUtex.lyx is obsolete).
