1. Description

Elsevier provides instructions, a very nice video HOWTO and a LaTeX-class for articles.

2. Installation

If not already installed, install the LaTeX-package elsarticle. The easiest way to do this is to use the package manager of your LaTeX-distribution (TeXLive or MiKTeX)
In LyX use the menu Tools->Reconfigure, and then restart LyX.

3. Template

LyX includes the template file elsarticle.lyx.

4. Issues

4.1 Author Footnote

Inserting an author footnote returns an error "! Use of \fntext doesn't match its definition.". This error appears because the footnote doesn't have a label. Simply right click on the author footnote line to add an "Author Footnote Label".
