The mini-buffer - manually entering commands (LyxFunctions)

The mini-buffer is a small area (prompt) where you can enter commands (LyxFunctions) using the keyboard. It is typically at the bottom of your LyX window and you can activate it by "M-x" or clicking on it with the mouse.

The mini-buffer is very useful for testing command sequences and accessing commands that are not available otherwise (e.g. the command has no keyboard shortcut and there is not menu entry). Creating a math macro is an example of this.

Tips

  • In the mini-buffer, you can use Arrow-up/down to get previous/next command, and Arrow-right for command completion (Qt frontend).
The key TAB is probably the command completion key in the Xforms frontend.
