3. Lists and news groups

There are several mailing lists related to LyX, see http://www.lyx.org/MailingLists for how to subscribe to them.

Name	Description/purpose
User's list	Questions on how to get LyX working, how to use LyX and other question related to usage.
Development list	Discussion of subjects relevant to the implementation, planning, hacking and improvement.
Documentation list	Discusses LyX documentation, including fixes, new documentation or translation.
Announcement list	Announcements concerning LyX, in particular new stable versions (read-only).
French list	Discussion list for the French users of the LyX program.
CVS list	CVS checkin messages (read-only).

4. Linking to gmane.org

The mailing lists are stored and made accessible as usenet news at gmane.org. It is therefore possible to link directly to a specific post, a thread or the web-interface of a mailing list.

7. About the LyX FTP-sites

There are two main FTP-sites related to LyX.

ftp.lyx.org — For downloading LyX releases etc, see ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx
- ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin — Pre-compiled LyX binaries for different operating systems.
- ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/contrib — Packages that are useful in conjunction with LyX. These packages were contributed by the LyX users and provided "as is".
- ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/stable — Source code for the different releases of LyX.
- ftp.lyx.org/incoming — Files can be uploaded (but not downloaded) to this directory for placement on the ftp-server.
ftp.devel.lyx.org
- ftp.devel.lyx.org/pub/lyx — Snapshots (source and binary) of development versions can be found here.
- ftp.devel.lyx.org/pub/incoming — Files can be uploaded (but not downloaded) to this directory for placement on the ftp-server.

7.1 Uploading files to the FTP-sites

Not even developers do direct uploads to ftp.lyx.org, only a very small set of people have access to that server.

In order to upload files to any of the FTP-sites, please upload the files to ftp.devel.lyx.org/pub/incoming. Then, via the developers' list (lyx-devel@lists.lyx.org), contact either Jean-Marc or Lars and ask them to move the files to their proper location.

Please note that the directory ftp.devel.lyx.org/pub/incoming is write only, so files uploaded to that directory cannot be downloaded from that directory.

7.2 Getting files to developers for them to place on the FTP-sites

In order to get a file to someone with access to the correct FTP-site, you can use a service such as www.yousendit.com.
